Mgt company didn’t tell us we’d have to pay water bill

Advice Needed

We moved into a single-family house in September 2025. The property is owned by a property management company. Our lease states: “Should water be separately metered, the tenant is responsible for the water bill. Notice: Before signing this lease, the tenant should determine if all necessary utilities are available to the property and are adequate for tenant’s use.” The company did not notify us that we would have to pay the water bill upon moving in. They only let us know that setting up electricity and internet was our responsibility. Ten days ago they sent us an email to charge us the water bill since the start of the lease and they said that they just noticed while reviewing their records that they forgot to charge us and also forgot to let us know to set up an account with BWSC. What can we do about this? No one told us we’d have to pay the water bill. We’d be willing to set up the account with BWSC moving forward but we are upset at how unreliable and unprofessional this company has been.
