[technique] Modified BODs oat tek using buckets

Technique

Hey guys, after multiple contamed tubs from various no soak, no boil Teks, I decided to go back to the basics.... BODs easy AF oat tek but I made some modifications to it that has made it easier in my opinion (especially clean up) and thought I would share with people that struggle with oats and the starches.

The only things you will need:

2 5 gallon buckets with lids (you can use more A drill 5/64 drill bit Large pot of water a bathroom with a removable shower head is preferred

  1. First we will make a strainer with one bucket, I have tried multiple sizes and have found 5/64 to work well to drain the water without the oats slipping out. Pop as many holes as desired on the bottom and the bottom quarter going up the sides of the bucket. Put your new strainer bucket and plain 5 gallon in the shower or bathtub

  2. Fill plain 5 gallon bucket halfway with oats and have the large pot with just water at a rolling boil

  3. Pour boiling water into bucket, fill it almost to the top leaving at least a 3 in gap to the top, immediately seal with the lid

  4. Set timer for 15-20 minutes, I personally get more burst grain than I prefer at exactly 20 mins but many of the old schoolers will worry about the internal hydration of the grains, but oat brands and harvest will vary regardless

  5. When time is up immediately put into strainer bucket and begin rinsing with shower head at high heat, every minute or so put on lid and shake and restart the process. This will help clean the oats effortlessly

  6. Dry grains however you desire, I used to use a hanging herb rack and shake them into large tubs once they are to my liking. I have another process that involves the buckets but I am currently looking at a patent and cannot disclose now

One of the things I like about this method is putting cleaning agents in the solid bucket after and putting strainer on top, Then closing the lid

Im sure I'm not the only one who has done it with a 🪣, but with this method it has been very consistent and scales nicely
