How do I convince my college to let me work on my startup ( 60L+ Profit ) - Minimum Attendance issue.
I am a second year CSE student in a Tier-3 college in Tamil Nadu ( Affilited with Anna Uni. ). I've been working as a freelancer my entire teenagehood ( if thats even a word lol - around 9 years now ). My first ever salary was $3 and paypal took half of it. Jumped fields like crazy ( socials, motion graphics, android, web ), and now eventually worked my way up here.
I am a single person company ( registered ) and I primarily work on a contract basis. I recently got a contract that paid me around $40-60k USD and will last for a couple more months ( $100k expected this year ). I know this might sound crazy but the top offer someone has ever received from my college was 8LPA and I thought they'd be supportive of me to alteast showcase that their top package was some student earning by himself, boy was I wrong. As you might expect, yes, its one of those AI related jobs but you can't miss the opportunity, you gotta ride the waves or get thrown in it. We never wanted to rely on the campus interviews or placement cell cause half the companies that show up, we don't even know them that they exist.
I only had a bitter experience when it came to profession related help in my college, cause the first time they screwed me over a website I made for them ( straight up refused to pay me for the work I've done for AN EVENT WHERE THEY MADE 3L ). Wouldn't have minded if it was charity.
Since me and my friends work sort of together, we got our parents and tried to talk to the principle. All those people who just said "we'll support you" just straight up said "ask the principle" and he said "I cannot provide you anything or give you extra minimum attendance window unless you operate within college, you can drop the college if you want to focus on your startup".
The incubation thing in my college sucks and I don't want to go there again. And this startup that operated in my college was somewhat close to me since I was working on their projects as a freelancer. I saw them(the college) asking that startup to provide equity on top of RENT for staying in college and guess what, the startup decided to leave.
So I am not willing to sign any papers or whatsoever and I don't want any of the college's help. Even though we didn't reveal the exact numbers, he inclined more towards the "register here and we can do something" from "we cannot do anything". Most of the college knows our team cause we've won several CTFs and hackathons ( Funny thing they didnt even provide us OD, we took leave and won the events and then only they provided us the OD ). Man, I never regretted being in a Tier 3 college cause I believed its your skills ( both soft and technical ) but ignorance and negligence is something that will mess you up.
Even if not for a whole sem, I wanted permission (attendance) atleast for the AI related contract since I've been working sleeplessly for it and no I'm not from a wealthy background so it is life changing for me. I was doing interviews and calls endlessly during my sem exams barely getting 2 hours of sleep and I don't want to give up any time sensitive opportunity for mere internal marks.
When we searched around, we found that AICTE allows startup students to write exams even if they are below the minimum attendance while the rest of the options were to either: Drop sem, drop college, register under college. We are above average students getting 8.5+CGPA in the past 3 sems without any backlogs ( we just study on the last 2 weeks mostly ) so even allowing us to write exams will be helpful but we won't likely have the minimum attendance if we choose to focus on the contract.
What are my potential options? should I register under my college even though it seems risky? Cause I feel like if they get to know the numbers, they'll just straight up try to increase the financial burden relatively.
