ℹ︎ Information
- 🗺Here's a map of how the NYC Subway would look without the above ground sections running
- When the snow accumulation is more than 8 inches, the subways will only run in the underground sections of the system. Express tracks will be used to store trains from the yards, and express service will stop until they are removed.
- You can tell this is about to happen before the MTA announces the service change based on real service alerts mentioning trains are being stored on express tracks - in prior years this has happened up to a few hours before the press conference event. Watch out for an 'Express to Local' alert and read the description to get an early warning. A press conference will be called before any changes take place.

❄️ Weather Forecast
Timing: Snow/mix starts Sunday AM, becoming heavy snow around Sunday afternoon/evening. Heavy snow continues until Monday afternoon depending on storm track.
General forecast as of Sat Feb 21 12:00pm EST: NY NWS has issued blizzard warnings for NYC, Long Island, and the coasts. A large range of 12 - 18"+ is forecasted to fall with whiteout conditions starting Sunday morning, gradually increasing to heavy snow starting on Sunday night into Monday Afternoon..

🔮 Predictions
Based on similar snowfall events and the current forecast/timelines, here are my predictions:
Expect very large service disruptions and service suspensions on many lines are possible. NYC Subway, PATH, LIRR, and New Haven Line (MNR) will likely be the most impacted by this storm.
Note: All of these predictions are based on weather forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS). The service disruption predictions are based on prior snow storms that have impacted the metro area and how transit agencies have adjusted their service schedules in response. If the forecast changes, the service disruption forecasts will also change.
