Playing tmodloader in fullscreen crashes computer completely

Trying to play terraria/tmodloader in fullscreen and my computer gets a dpc watchdog error and crashes. Steam says that one file from the base game is not validated properly but it can’t resolve it - tried installing microsoft directx but no luck. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Only mods installed are calamity and the boss checklist.
