Career Help (Regretting My College Degree)

Hey everyone, I’m 22F, and I’m honestly in a mini crisis right now regarding career.

A brief background:

I was homeschooled for the majority of my life, not really having exposure to career options or even just access to talk to people about life and college and the future. I was very studious, and honestly the only thing I knew was “I need to do well in my studies”. So that’s what I did. I had no counselor no help no nothing. I applied to a 4 year university in Miami, FL where I’m from, with no real plan as to what to even study. I switched my major like 4 times 🤣 I ended up having a unique interest in psychology and neuroscience and that’s what I studied. I graduated with a 4.0 gpa and made really good connections with my

professors (I still talk to them even after graduation). The original plan was to pursue higher level education (such as pursuing a PhD eventually in neuroscience).

However, after graduation, I had to move to a small town in North Carolina (financial reasons, parents moved there, etc). I had intended to continue gaining experience in my field such as applying to work or volunteer in nearby research labs, or even applying to STEM related jobs. I also had some work experience in psychology, working with children, etc. However, it’s been months and I cannot find anything. There are no jobs here that are hiring anyone with entry level experience. I since then decided not to go the route of a PhD since it doesn’t really align with my goals anymore, plus science being massively defunded in the US.

I’m considering a career pivot at this point but I have no idea what to do.

My whole identity has been school and I didn’t really gain much work or internship experience. And now I’m in this town that doesn’t really have much to offer and I don’t have money to move to a bigger city.

I’m at a loss, I feel like I picked the wrong degree, I feel like I didn’t optimize my time in university due to just not knowing about my resources or opportunities there.

I’ve been rejected to countless jobs. I know the job market is tough right now but I’m just feeling so defeated.

I’m willing to learn ANYTHING, I learn very quickly and wouldn’t mind continuing schooling with a Masters degree in something else.

I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas or insights that I could be missing. Or any jobs titles I could apply to in order to gain some experience. I’m just so lost man.

Thanks in advance. 😔
