Max originally from San Diego?

Was it mentioned in the series? Some guy claimed the Max novel claimed it was San Diego. I thought maybe she was from a working class beach town along Orange County to Los Angeles. Think of Huntington Beach or Seal Beach or Long Beach or Hermosa Beach.
