Prior Period Adjustments

Hi all, this is my first post here. Nice to e-meet everyone.

I recently came into a role into a company that has a habit of doing PPAs instead of doing within-period adjustments. This is a private company. There is this feeling that "we can't keep opening the books" on prior periods. There are a lot of manual processes and things are "figured out" months after the events. While I think the accounting team reporting to me is doing the best they can, I see these PPAs and I am very frustrated with the accounting practices. I have been able to fix a couple other material issues but we have a large expense that should have hit time t-1 and is hitting time t. While no real effort seems to have been done about defining materiality thresholds, I would be very surprised if anyone questioned the materiality of this PPA.

I'd love to hear from other people how you'd manage this. Am I being pretentious or having preciousness about this?

Have you implemented any sort of internal accounting policy about the usage of PPAs? I am considering having a PPA require my approval and the CEOs. Thanks for any help!
