I am writing this because I just witnessed another horrific accident right in front of my house. My home is located near the highway and the area has become a complete black spot for accidents. This time it was three bikes that collided at high speed. From what I saw, two people were badly injured and one was unconscious and in very poor shape.
The reason I am even posting this is because I have lived in this exact area for 19 years. I have seen countless accidents and deaths in this specific spot and I have never seen the authorities take any actual action to address the safety issues here. People in this area have been asking the town committee for street lights for a long time because it gets incredibly dangerous at night but they never did anything about it. It is like our safety does not matter to them at all.
In all these years I have noticed that every single time an accident happens the police are the last ones to arrive. The only exception I can remember was one time when a truck carrying potatoes overturned and fell down. That was the only time they managed to be the first ones there.
What really bothers me is that the police station is only 50 meters away from this area. Even though they are the closest they only arrived today after everything was already over. The crowd had gathered and the ambulance had already taken the injured people away. By the time the police showed up it was basically just to pick up the bikes and clear the road.
It feels like the only priority is clearing the wreckage instead of actually making the road safe for people to use. I do not understand how a police station can be right next door to such a dangerous area and still be the last ones to arrive on the scene when human lives are at stake.
