What short wave radio antenna to buy/build

I want to put a short wave radio in my attic. My house has aluminum siding and it blocks reception. I also get crazy interference that sounds like 60hrtz. What does the collective mind of the interweb recommend? What can I do about the interference. Is there a filter I can use? I’m a bit of a noob.
