Bit you got from PM and can't stop thinking about

Discussion

I’m the same person who asked about our favorite bit of lore; I know most posts are about competitive, but since I play Masters for the characters, I like asking questions where people like me have space to talk about the characters they love. Tell me about any character you like / any interaction you enjoyed, especially ones expanded on in Masters.

I’ll start big, obviously with Hisui lore: the fact that in Masters you find out that the one who created the rift in the sky in Hisui wasn’t Volo teaming up with Giratina is, in my opinion, one of the biggest lore drops ever. God hates you specifically, and hates you so much that instead of killing you with his bare hands he does EVERYTHING to make others do it for him, sacrificing innocents, just to see you surrounded and dead. And he still fails.

That whole part of Volo going from person to person trying to convert people to Arceus is burned into my brain; on a psychological level I think he’s one of the most devoted and unhinged characters ever created.

Still in Hisui, I think I actually laughed out loud when Akari and Rei arrive in Pasio, someone warns Adaman and Irida, and those two decide to pull the ultimate prank and show up with Cynthia in tow just to scare them.

Moving to Galar, I love how much DeNA cares about showing that Raihan and Leon are (almost) always together: in the Legendary event where you get Hop, Raihan immediately runs to where he knows Leon will be, and in the Tower intro too you can see them always together, chitchatting. Their relationship is never really explored, but the fact that Raihan doesn't seem to want to interact with anyone except Leon (sometimes straight-up ignoring the other characters in the scene, like one of the last scene of the intro of the tower) really does it for me.

Still on Raihan, I love how completely off-standard he is compared to the other characters. The others are more approachable; even the more difficult ones are made to interact with you in one way or another, while he’s always focused on something else, a bit self-absorbed. He’s not hostile, but he comes off as much more aloof. That was already his personality in Sword and Shield, and I’m glad they didn’t drop it. I'm an extremely extroverted person, don't get me wrong, it's not even a case where I say "love the rep", but its nice to see that some characters are just... not there for everyone. Everyone was interested in the Hisuian people, and tried to help them? not him. he barely investigated that. He doesn't care.

again, the Raihan Sygna event straight-up altered my brain chemistry, especially his interactions with Adaman. Adaman comes off a bit rude at times because his personality is extremely direct and he’s baffled by a lot of what he sees (Pal Adaman even comments that he’s learning to be less judgmental toward Pasio), and Raihan comes off as rude because he’s very few words and not particularly sociable. The two of them are polar opposites and yet insanely compatible, and even though that event shows that Raihan really isn’t much of a people person, I found all their interactions adorable (they’ve got the same autism flavor, cough cough).
