i'm actually using airpods, but on find my they're like untrackable

one day i lent my airpods to two of my friends, so the airpods unpaired from my phone and paired to their phone. then they gave me again my airpods and i paired them to my phone. now i opened find my and the airpods are at the place where i gave them, but i'm actually using them. i tried to delete them from my device and paired them again, but i can't do it because if on find my i try to delete the airpods it says "airpods not found" or something. how can i delete them and put them again in the find my app? or it's fucked and i can't do anything anymore?
