When and how do i unlock more building Space?

There is an empty island i will unlock at some point which is probably for building, but i would like more space on the main land. I just unlocked the medium fish pond and i cant place it anywhere.

Also, how do i get rid of fields and trellis that have immortal seeds on them? Nothing in the building menu i could find
