Trump and his Illegal Tariff

In regards to the Supreme Court dismantling steep tariffs Trump tried implementing on many places of the world, Donald J. Trump announced on Friday (2/21/2026) that he would be implementing a 10% tariff on every location in the world that wasn't already under a tariff by the Trump Administration. Donald Trump said that the tariff would go into effect regardless of the Supreme Court's Ruling. As it turns out, the Supreme Court was calling his actions illegal and globally criminal while trying to dismantle the tariff. With push back from the Supreme Court, Donald J Trump has raised the global tariff to 15% to try and teach the Supreme Court about his methods.

With the Justices voting 6-3 on the matter, Donald John Trump's form of actions on the tariffs are not permitted under the 1977 law International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). On Donald J Trump's "truth" socials, he wrote, "I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10% Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been “ripping” the U.S. off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15% level." Completely leaving out all the "fully allowed" votes from the Supreme Court that in fact did not allow this action what-so-ever. While a few countries in the world will be granted a lower tariff rate due to this tariff, many countries around the world will drastically rise.

Over the fact of illegal tariffs ruling by the Supreme Court, Donald John Trump has titled the new tariff under a new law. Section 122 of the 1973 Trade Act, which permits the president to make temporary import surcharges that reach "up to 15% if [they] finds there are "large and serious United States balance of-payments deficits" or to "prevent an imminent and significant depreciation of the American dollar in foreign exchange markets."" These temporary tariffs are permitted to last 150 days, however Congress is permitted to extend the tariff by another 150 days if needed.
