Yelling "Police" to stop physical violence in progress.
I've been working as both an unarmed and armed guard in New York state (NOT NYC) for about 7 years. I have been told by a few cops and even some very experienced security guard instructors and supervisors that supposedly it's legal for a private security guard to yell "Stop Police" in an attempt to get someone to stop who has been witnessed by the guard in the act of committing a violent physical felony including arson, burglary, robbery, kidnapping, violent physical assault, murder/attempted murder, manslaughter and forced physical sexual act.
Does anyone else in NY know if this is actually true and if so could you share the NY state law that references this?
Also just curious if this is true in any other states.
