Since this movie is leaving the platform soon and I just finished reading the book, I decided to watch the movie as well. There may be spoilers ahead.

First of all, I've only watched Rosemund Pike's (Jane) movie (Gone Girl) before and this was the first time I'm watching the other actors. I'm kind of surprised how dedicatedly it followed the book's dialogues and vibes. I mean I have my fair share of watching adaptations and almost everytime they tweak the story to cater audiences and classic literatures become historical fictions. Thus, I was kinda surprised and impressed at how the original dialogues are being delivered. Plus they kept the dressing sense relevant to the Regency era and also the surroundings. I was quite impressed that they showed Pemberley to be as beautiful as the book described. Plus the balls and social gatherings are so Regency era coded. I'd also like to focus on the fact that they kept the romance as much as Jane Austen wrote and was acceptable in that era, and didn't make it more intimate and adhere to today's standards. I think the respect shown towards the author by adhering to her descriptions and writing is what stood the movie out for me.

However the original book was over 400 pages long and also consisted of 61 chapters. And due to this, I believe the movie had to cut out many scenes and incidents which made the film a bit non-coherent than the book. For example, Elizabeth felt immense guilt and shame after reading Darcy's letter and the Pemberley arc was where their romance brew, Mr Darcy saw Elizabeth came with muddy shoes for her sister and that's what made him admire her and fall in love, and the side stories and the contribution of Gardiners were kind of left out. In the movie Mr. Darcy's confession came out of nowhere and so did Elizabeth's love for him. Plus the book also described what happened with Lydia, the Bennett family, Charlotte, and all the notable side characters. But the movie cut out after their confession and Mr. Bennett approving Lizzie's marriage with Mr.Darcy. I guess we had to sacrifice this to keep the dialogues.

One thing I can't get off my head was how bad the stylist's did their job. I mean you made Mr.Darcy look like someone who's forty years old and looking for a second mistress and Elizabeth's hairstyle was an abomination. I mean the Bennett's may not be as rich as the Bingleys or Darcys but they fell in the socialite class and they were Upper class gentry. Atleast make them look like that. Elizabeth and Jane looked like they didn't eat for days (I'm not body shaming, but when the requirement is upper class gentry, you don't style people to make them lean towards a fragile, windswept aesthetic rather than the polished upper-gentry look you'll imagine from the novel. You don't cast people who are so thin that I can see the detailed shape of their spinal cord. In case anyone assumes it to be as beauty standards, atleast the face should have been on the plumper side) and for me Georgiana was also supposed to be a shy, reserved and a well built lady, where they had clearly miscasted.

Overall, I do give it a 7/10. Since there will be a netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, I'll probably watch that too. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes.

My opinion on Pride and Prejudice (2005) as someone who has also read the book
