Undead mobs during the day

I see a lot of zombies during the day using roof overhangs and trees as cover. They also thrive during rain/snow storms due to lack of direct sun.

I play on PS4 and in creative mode so I basically build cages for any mobs possible. (Currently building an island for a group of Ocelots.) If I wanted to build a cage for zombies or phantoms, could I use fences/bars/glass or would I have to use solid blocks only? TIA!
