Am I being unreasonable? Need some perspective

Romance/Relationships

I’m going to start this off by saying that I think I’m going through perimenopause right now (37f), so my hormones are pretty out of whack. I’m also on my period so I’m more sensitive than usual. But I need some perspective here about something that probably isn’t a major deal. And maybe just need the space to rant.

I’m currently on holiday with my husband, visiting his family in his home country. I’ve visited many times and I always make the effort to respect their culture and general way of living, which is different to my own. I always adapt to their way of being when I’m here, as much as I can.

I usually love to get up early in the morning and go for a walk, have breakfast and plan the day ahead. This is NOT how my husband or his family operates. They much prefer to sleep most of the morning and have breakfast around lunch time. I’ve adapted to this and don’t have any expectations of them doing much in the morning ; whenever I visit I will usually just take myself out early morning and sort my own breakfast out, wander around the local area etc.

We are here in his country on holiday for 1 week, and we’ve come to visit his sister. We are only visiting for one day and it’s a city that’s 6 hours away from where we usually stay, so it’s unlikely we will visit again anytime soon. We arrived last night at 6pm. We didn’t have dinner until 11.30pm (their usual dinner time - very late for me but again I just go with it). When we arrived his sister didn’t really make too much effort, she sat and watched her soaps while we just chilled on our phones, but ok, I guess not everyone’s good at entertaining guests and that’s ok.

Since we are here only one day I figured both my husband and his sister would make a bit of an adjustment to their schedule, and from what he told me, we would be spending today (Saturday) exploring the city. I woke up at 7am and waited. And waited. And waited. 11:45am came and went and both of them were still asleep so I just took myself for a walk and came back at 1pm, by which time they were awake. He was annoyed I went out by myself which I thought was a bit unfair but whatever. He then asked me what I wanted to do. I said since it wasn’t a city I was familiar with and I had thought him and his sister would have something planned, I wasn’t sure. He said we could go to the beach; I told him I hadn’t packed my beach stuff since he told me specifically we wouldn’t be visiting the beach, but ok, I can sit on the beach in my clothes that’s fine. He then decided a better idea would be to go to an indoor amusement park. So that’s where we went. On a beautiful sunny 24 degree Celsius day, of which we don’t get any of in my own home country (I live in the UK, it rains 99% of the time). So we went, and since I had been up since 7am, I was pretty hungry. However, they don’t usually have lunch until 3pm so I waited again. Eventually 4pm came and we still hadn’t had lunch, so I was like ummm hello I’m hungry can I get something to eat? To which he said I was being ‘hangry’ and I should go find a McDonald’s for myself.

I just ended up walking away and crying because this whole entire day has been absolutely shit. We leave tomorrow which is another 6 hours in the car and I feel like I’ve just wasted 3 days of a 7 day holiday for absolutely nothing.

Am I being unreasonable for being this upset? I know I’m a bit more sensitive right now but I’ve just cried and wanted to be alone for most of this afternoon. I tried to communicate but it didn’t go very well so I resigned myself to just not saying anything and trying not to make a big deal of it.

How would you have handled it, would any of this have bothered you?
