Does “Trainee Engineer” count as foreign work experience for Express Entry PR?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently preparing my eAPR after receiving my ITA under Express Entry (CEC), and I just want to confirm something regarding my foreign work experience.

I worked as a Trainee Engineer outside Canada before moving here. The position was:

- Full-time (40 hrs/week)

- Paid employment (monthly salary with payslips and bank deposits)

- After completing my engineering degree

- Duties match a skilled NOC (engineering role – TEER 1)

- Not part of an internship or academic program

I understand IRCC evaluates job duties rather than job title, but I’m slightly worried because the title includes the word “trainee.”

Has anyone successfully claimed foreign work experience under titles like:

- Trainee Engineer

- Graduate Engineer

- Management Trainee

- Junior Engineer

and received PR approval?

Did IRCC ask for additional documents or clarification because of the title?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who went through a similar situation or had their application approved with a “trainee” designation.

Thanks in advance!
