Windows update error x80070002
Hi. My windows update is trying to download an update it installed 10 days ago.
2026-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 22H2 for 64x-based systems (KB5075912)
error x80070002.
Something I'm not sure is related has also got me worried.
I checked the Devices and Printers page at the control panel window. And on my PC it says driver error. When I try to troubleshoot I get the error 0x8000FFFF.
What I have tried: I used the windows update troubleshooter. It asked me to reboot the PC. Then I had the "preparing windows, please wait" on my screen for about 2 hours.
I did the sfc and dism scan and image clean.
The commands to shut down and start up windows update. Wauserv, cryptSvc, bits, msiserver.
Reset the Microsoft store cashe.
I used safe boot. Tried the same things again.
I couldn't try the uninstall update one because it would not let me uninstall any of them. Just 2 Microsoft visual c+++ updates from 2021.
I did the chkdsk scan and /f for repair. Rebooted the PC.
Deleted the temp files.
Disabling third party software was when I did the safe boot.
Renamed the Softwaredistribution folder to .old
Renamed the system32/catroot2 to .old
Checked the date and time.
I checked the registry for flight? Something. Can't remember. Couldn't find where I read about it. They weren't there though.
The things I haven't tried are changing the DNS network settings because I was afraid of making things worse. And I didn't reinstall windows. Which for me is a last resort.
If anyone has any suggestions on what else to try that doesn't involve a clean install. I'm all ears.
Thank you.
