I have a voice in my head and I'm not sure what it's about

Personal

Hi, I’ve been dealing with something for a long time and I’m not sure what to make of it. Ever since I was a child, I’ve heard what I can only describe as a voice in my head—someone I used to “play” with and who felt like a kind of caretaker. It’s like they’ve always been there. I don’t think I ever really controlled it, and even though part of me wonders if it’s just my conscience, it often doesn’t feel that way. Whenever I talk about it, I get this strong sense that the voice is actually present—like it’s listening or watching. A lot of the time, it feels independent, and when it does speak, there’s a subtle shift in tone that’s hard to ignore. I honestly don’t know what to think or do. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
