Green witchcraft is mostly waiting and watching, and I think that’s kind of the point

The longer I practice green witchcraft, the more it turns out to be about patience instead of actually doing things.

A lot of it is waiting. Like letting seeds sit in the cold before they’re ready, watching how plants respond over weeks, not days, or learning what actually survives in a space by noticing what keeps failing there first. I just started cold stratification yesterday, and I’m already working on my impatience to get them in the ground!

Even in the kitchen, I end up cooking the same meals over and over until I understand them, instead of chasing something new.

Most days nothing exciting happens, it’s just quiet. Sometimes it even feels like I’m not “doing” witchcraft at all. But things are still shifting if I slow down enough to notice. I always miss stuff when I rush.

I used to think magic had to feel active to be real. Now it feels more like listening, slowing down, or maybe paying attention longer than is comfortable. Letting systems show you their limits instead of trying to push past them.

Green witchcraft, at least for me, has become less about spells and more about staying: staying with a season, staying with a plant, staying with a process until it finally makes sense.

I like that I’ve been forced to slow down and appreciate the process and the journey. Plus I think it makes my teas taste all the better when I’ve patiently waited all season for them!
