Unpopular opinion: Putting the blame on Johnny for alt's death is forced

Discussion

Heres something that grinds my gears (not really but still). The common narrative, pushed by both "lore-experts" and AI Alt in 2077, is that Johnny "killed" Alt because his arrogance made him rush in and pull the plug while she was saving herself. I find this completely forced.

Johnny acted exactly how any rational person would in that situation, and blaming him requires a massive amount of hindsight bias. Here’s why:

1.The time pressure was real: He wasn't just hanging out, he was raiding the heart of Arasaka Tower. He believed Alt was being subjected to Soulkiller in that moment. In a hostage situation with a megacorp, hesitation is a death sentence.

  1. He had zero technical context: Johnny isn't a Netrunner. He’s a Rockerboy with a gun. He sees his girlfriend hooked up to a "brain-frying machine" by the world’s most evil company. To a layman, "unplugging the machine" is the only logical way to stop the harm.

  2. The "Secret Plan" is a reach: How was he supposed to know Alt had secretly rewritten the code and was mid-transfer? She didn’t have a "Progress Bar" floating over her head. Expecting him to pause, read the command lines on a terminal, and assume she was winning is absurd.

  3. Alt’s AI bias: People take 2077 Alt’s word as gospel, but she isn't human anymore. She’s a cold program that only sees binary outcomes. She blames Johnny because he was the physical variable that caused the "fail", completely ignoring the human stress and the fact that Arasaka kidnapped her in the first place.

Johnny didn't kill Alt because he was a narcissist; he "killed" her because he was a desperate man trying to save the person he loved from a fate worse than death. He did more than anyone else would do, if they're girl got kidnapped my a megacorp.

TL;DR: Blaming Johnny for not knowing Alt's 4D-chess escape plan is peak Monday-morning quarterbacking. He didn't have the "God's eye view" the players have.
