Rethinking Zoladex - Financial Burden

Diagnosed Patient or Survivor Support

I was in a dark place yesterday. I got on the phone with insurance to talk about the costs of my new treatment plan (Zoladex) and was told each month's pill is $1,400 with my insurance ($5,000 without). After insurance, each month's pill is more than our mortgage! I feel like this is absolutely insane and needlessly cruel.

My doc wants me on this five years because it will give me a slight edge over the Tamoxifen my previous doc prescribed for 10 years. But she never warned me about the costs. And this will be a huge financial burden on my family that has already been hit by other cancer-related fees. I am young, in the last semester of my degree, and work two part time jobs to help my husband with finances. I am already not making enough, and now I have to consider that I'll be hitting my out of pocket maximum ($8,000) for the next five years. I keep questioning if it's even worth it for just a slight edge. I think of all the things we won't get to do because so much money is going to a stupid pill. Idk what the answer was. I just wish this wasn't all such a burden.

I am in the U.S. if that wasn't obvious from the exorbitant costs.
