Good News! SQ42 is Feature Replete! [VR Support Planned]
Sir Christopher has bravely redefined 'Feature Complete' once more:
Q&A at the 'Enter ATMOSPHERE' fan event
Squadron will be fully VR-supporting too.
It'll be very cool, you can reach out and touch Gillian Anderson.
So we're pretty committed to making the VR implementation the best that you've seen in gaming for any game.
We're gonna be supporting more VR specific controls. So VR controllers as well as the general control stuff we do at the moment.
So it is an ongoing project and one of the other aspects is the UI side of things, which still has to be dialled in. [...]
It's still got quite a long way to go. But it is definitely on our plan. So when Squadron releases it will be full featured and the same parity will be in Star Citizen.
So, kinda feature incomplete, but fear not, definitely going to be done in 2026 ;)
CR burble about 'best that you've seen in gaming for any game' aside, the core intent is probably achievable, if likely to lean towards the sketchy end, as 'flatscreen ports' usually do. (With various nausea twists, for every exciting turret segment you twizzle your way into ;))
It doesn't sound like its moved much beyond its passion project roots though. No mention of a dedicated team being formed etc.
Expecting those guys to get it working and 'polished' in ~10 months seems like... an ask.
(And expecting SC to have 'parity' also seems like a 'Not Soon' proposition. They'd have to work on viewable 3rd person rigs, networked motions etc, all working alongside the mocap-dense animation system they've got. Def more heavy lifting there.)
TLDR: Gaming nirvana awaits! Any year now...
