Dead Pigeons on Eldon Green Today

Was going around town this afternoon and noticed a) a suspicious lack of pigeons and b) multiple bits of dead pigeon on Eldon Green.
Newcastle Council have form of doing sneaky animal culls before (remember the civic centre bunnies?), so wondered if there was some under-the-radar population control going on - I heard about something similar in Manchester Train station.
Anyone noticed any late-night hunters or hawkers?
