My Mixtape Is Greater Than Your Album isn’t a call to battle, but a affirmation that Psya can stand behind. Coming out of Chicago, Psya comes with strong yet personal lyrics across a litany of samples and sounds. When he says his mixtape is better than peoples albums he’s not wrong. Let’s get into why!

.

The first thing that stood out to me as I started this up was the elegant production. Great samples and beautiful beats woven together like a quilt, beats that keep the soul warm. Then on top of that Psya spits grown man bars with a deceptively simple style at times. Fitting multi rhyme patterns in that could get overlooked. Entro, Wah Wah & Only Fans all start the project off with a classic feel.

.

This isn’t all one style though, a song like Residue stands out as a dark, almost chopped and screwed kind of song. Especially the hook, before Psya and Easy O’Hare smash the beat apart. A vibe that continues into Pintos To Porches, gritty and raw while Psya gets ice cold on the track. There are a few songs I like a little less than most of the project with the main one being Draggin Ballz (hilarious title). Just the lower energy and acoustic guitar type of sound isn’t my style very often. Not bad by any means, just the song that connected with me the least personally.

.

I went into this blind and came out a Psya fan. Not only did he rap his ass off all over this but along with some other helped produce the album. Putting together a great project that really is better than many peoples albums. There’s room to grow and improve, but I don’t doubt that Psya has the fire and drive to push and continue be great like he did here.
