Dog vomiting on and off for 8 months. Please please help!
My 4 year old cavoodle is vomiting on and off, it started in July 2025, she vomited for 2 days but showed signs of being happy. On the 2nd day she became lethargic so we took her to the emergency vet who gave her an anti nausea and prokolin probiotics, followed by a trip to our local vet for bloods a day later which came back fine.
About 3 weeks ago, she did the same thing, vomiting water and bile after food had been vomited up but again seemed in good spirits. The vet gave anti nausea injection and antibiotics for 1 week which we finished per directions.
Yesterday she vomited overnight and then again at about 11am (solids only) Now, it’s 4am and she’s vomited her dinner up through our entire bed (solids). I fear she will probably continue to vomit until we get her the anti nausea again.
I will take her to emergency vet today but what should I be asking for? Last time I took her, I asked for an ultrasound and they declined saying it’s a waste of money and there would not be an obstruction because she poos in between vomiting. They said if anything she would need an X-ray but they would not do that either.
Is there anything I can do at home that’s a natural anti nausea, she’s now fearful of the vet and I don’t want her to keep taking needles if she doesn’t have to. Is an X-ray/ultrasound going to help?
What could be causing this? What treatment options can I ask for? It’s very distressing for her and us and at this point money is no issue if it means she will stop vomiting indefinitely. She is usually on kibble + a little bit of plain meat like steak, chicken or sometimes egg as she’s a very fussy eater. We’ve never noticed a correlation between any particular food and the vomiting. She will have diarrhoea sometimes just before the vomiting starts.
