Hey guys, seems like this is probably the right place but if it isn't, I can try r/askelectricians if that makes more sense. So I'm trying to help a close friend out with a music video shoot who is wanting a certain lighting effect and I came up with the idea to use halogen car headlight bulbs. This is a DIY project using junk and scraps I already have, under a very tight timeline (shoot is tomorrow) so I don't really have time to purchase parts online. This is very hacky and I'm just needing it to do the thing tomorrow. I just need to light up my bulb and in theory, everything else I should be able to sort out or won't be absolutely necessary. I usually know enough to get by, but I feel like I'm missing some fundamentals at times.

I have a power supply that's intended for LEDs, labeled a "constant voltage dimming LED driver" with these specs:

Model: YSD-200WUGP-24TL
Input: 100-277vac, 2.4A max, 50/60hz
Output: 24vdc, 8.3A, 200w

I have a C14 connector that should be all good, with good continuity to the proper inputs on the power supply. The power supply hums when power is connected. I see 24v as expected across the live leads, connected to the V+ and V- of the power supply outputs. I manually connect the wires to the pins of the bulb, and while there's a very small spark at the connection, the bulb doesn't even try to light at all. I have tested continuity between the bulb pins when disconnected and that shows no resistance. I have reversed the polarity of my connections at the bulb pins, but that also does nothing.

My bulb is intended to be used with a standard 12v car electrical system, but my research leads me to believe that's totally fine, and with these bulbs just being pins to the filament without any components, I am assuming that there's no specific voltage or anything it would need, just enough to light it up and beyond that longevity would be a consideration. If 24v was way too much, I'd expect a bright flash before it blowing and the filament physically breaking, no?

Does it make sense that the bulb would maybe need to be grounded by the metal base to the car's headlight housing? I have looked at videos for this type of socket and it doesn't look like there is anything metal, and as a car person, it doesn't seem like something I've come across, where there is a metal connection going to, say, the mounting points of the headlight bucket.

I'd love some advice if anyone has any thoughts. I would normally trudge through testing, but I don't want to run my friend's scheduled shoot tomorrow. Thanks in advance!
