How correct are indicative post numbers during recruitment rounds? is it really true that there will only be 35 - 117 gen surg st3 numbers this year?

if they are intervieweing 288 then only 35 numbers that leaves a competition ratio of 1 in 8 post interview. I am sure pre would be like 1:30 then.

How is this possible???
