My mother doesn’t have a birth certificate or school leaving certificate – passport police verification stuck. What can we do?

Hi everyone,

My mother (born in 1972) has applied for a fresh passport. During police verification, it was pointed out that she does not have a birth certificate or school leaving certificate as proof of date of birth.

Since she was born before 1989, I understand alternative DOB proofs are usually accepted. We have Aadhaar and PAN with the correct date of birth.

Has anyone faced a similar issue?

What documents did you submit to clear police verification?

Is an affidavit enough, or do we need a Non-Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC) from the municipal corporation?

We are based in Mumbai. Any guidance would really help.
