Are folks still heading north? Plus looking for a spot to reconnect and heal for a month
This is a longer post so I will put the TLDR here first:
Are people in Mexico still looking to head north for work or life or has the political situation made everyone over it? Also looking for travel tips for a solo guy.
Non TLDR:
I was raised in a mixed family and when I was younger my Papa who was from Mexico used to take me to Tijuana and on fishing trips in Quintana Roo. I remember his extended family was always trying to find a way to get to America. Even as a white American kid I was always welcomed with so much love and kindness and it left a massive impression on me.
As my cousins and I got older some of them did arranged marriages and were able to help get their partners and their families out of Mexico, my oldest cousins in laws just moved back.
I ended up marrying a Canadian despite my Juanita and Papa wanting me to marry a nice Mexican girl instead. Sorry Juanita you were probably right in the end but hey I have Canadian citizenship now too!
I work from home and visit the touristy areas a lot but the vibe feels different lately. With the US being way less welcoming I am curious if the desire to head north is still there or if people are just over it. Is it just in my head or is there just negative sentiment in general towards all Americans these days.
I also see a lot of talk about locals being frustrated with Americans moving south and driving up prices so I am wondering if I should be worried about that or if there are spots where people are still cool with us being there.
I just beat cancer this year at 41 so while I am fairly fit my energy levels are still pretty low and I get drained fast. I am looking for recommendations for somewhere to visit for around a month that is very walkable or with great transport so I can get around and eat good food without needing to hike all day.
I am a non Spanish speaker but I am hoping to connect with the culture my family is not around to show me anymore. I am not big into the party scene but a nice lounge and good drinks with great food are never a miss.
Any suggestions you have are very welcomed, if you know a safe way to meet chill English speaking locals who are willing to act as a tour guide for restaurants, bars, or just chill spots I would love the hookup or advice. Feel free to message me as well if you need more information about anything or have questions.
My buddies suggested I go to Hong Kong to celebrate beating cancer, I laughed and said why the fuck would I want to go to China. They said it's in Mexico you idiot, I now understand what they were saying. That is not my style or idea of relaxing but I did find it funny.
