Got a job offer but now I’m stressing about the background check

I recently accepted a job offer and they just sent over the background check authorization.

The problem is, I have something from about 5 years ago that might show up. Nothing recent, and I’ve been working steadily since then, but now I’m honestly freaking out.

I don’t really know how to handle this and Google is giving me mixed advice.

I’m trying to figure out:

Should I bring it up proactively or wait and see if it comes up?

If I do disclose it, how much detail is too much?

When is the right time to say something (before, after, only if they ask)?

Do employers usually rescind offers for older stuff?

This job is a big step for me and I really don’t want to mess it up by handling the situation the wrong way.

Has anyone here gone through something similar?
