New Hampshire: Was arrested for speeding - what happens next?
I was arrested for going 103 on the highway today. Cop came straight to my door, opened it, yelled for me to get out. I respected all orders and did as I was told: put my hands behind my back and he told me I was being arrested for reckless driving. Put me in handcuffs and I sat in the back of the officer's cruiser while he wrote up the report.
I have no criminal record. I've never been arrested. I had one speeding ticket last year and vowed to myself I would slow down on the highway but clearly I didn't. I was late to an appointment and have had a lot of things going on in my life that have been emotionally hard but there is no excuse.
I took responsibility immediately and stayed quiet. When he finished the report he said I have a court appointed date set and he uncuffed me. He said I could plead not guilty but that he would testify against me - I said I wouldn't do that, I was clearly in the wrong.
When I was first handcuffed I couldn't stop saying I'm sorry. Was shaking to the point it was embarrassing and I could barely walk from how scared, nervous, and ashamed I felt.
I'm home now and am terrified of what comes next. I know I have a big fine that's coming my way soon and my insurance is going to go up. Officer also told me my license will likely be suspended for 3 months.
I'm going to plead guilty.
I'm extremely ashamed and cannot stop crying. I know that does nothing for the situation but it is what it is.
What happens at the court? Should I bring a friend or family member to drive me home in case my license in suspended? I'm already thinking of ways to get to work if this is the case.
What comes next? I'm in extreme distress.
