Piano/keyboard vs guitar for singing/songwriting

I’ve been having singing lessons and band as well for a little over an year and I’m enjoying it a lot, to the point of wanting to do a project of my own (as in maybe starting a band / do some covers now that I’m more confident in my abilities)

I have some material written and a general idea of songs I’d want to cover, but I wanted to be able to play an instrument to understand existing songs better and imagine how the lyrics I write could be, aside from just words on a paper or some humming.

I tried bass and drums out back in 2020, so I know very basic stuff, but I’m torn between guitar and keyboard at the moment. Both seem better to just play around with and figure out melodies. Which one would be better to start with? My intention is just to communicate ideas better.
