While the United States has absolutely committed atrocities and economic warfare across Latin America that deserve to be called out, acting like a Cuban woman speaking about her own lived experience is “gross” does nothing but divide people who are probably on the same side. It is wild watching Americans talk down to Cubans, dismiss their reality, and invalidate what they and their families lived through when they have no idea what that actually looks like.

Yes, the United States has a long history of regime change and violence in Latin America and most Americans are clueless about it. That does not change the fact that Fidel Castro was not an angel and Cuba has never been a socialist paradise that only failed because of the embargo. He is on Instagram romanticizing Fidel Castro for some reason and Hasan could have easily said that the United States government has its own role. Instead he chose to call Camila sharing her own family’s struggles gross and disgusting.

Camila was born in Cuba and she and her mom left in the 2000s, not the 1960s. They actually know what life under the current regime looks like because they lived it and still talk to family and their community about it. But of course some loud American born guy with a podcast mic thinks he is the authority on what Cubans are allowed to say.

Why is this man foaming at the mouth because Camila Cabello talked about the country she literally grew up in?
