The sense of a community and social circle a 9-5 gives you
I'm curious to see if anyone has replicated this without working a 9-5, or possible ways to have something similar.
Context:
Even though I've been self employed for the most of my career, because of boredom a few years ago I decided to give 9-5 a shot. I was lucky enough to enter a medium sized company with great people and I immediately bonded with all of them.
The social boost I was getting daily in my life was insane. I was talking to more than 20 different people everyday, we were constantly organising group outings, hikes, after-work activities etc... Every morning before starting to work everyone would drink their coffee in the yard, chatting, joking, messing around, basically like a one big family.
My social life was packed, I was constantly going to some event, some festival, some new restaurant in town... Everything was happening spontaneously and organically, like someone at work would mention or suggest doing something and plans would instantly be made. I experienced a lot of things and went to a lot of places I would otherwise never have gone to.
The bad thing was that the company was the glue holding everything together. Once the company started going down, it all fell apart. And then we were all let go and went out separate ways.
And now I'm back to my old life and I haven't been able to replicate the dynamics and the amount of people that I had in my life when I was at the company. Wondering if it's actually possible to have a life like that without working a 9-5 job.
