hi im asking this as a teenager and want some guidance from parents about how i should do this. i am struggling mentally and want things to get better because i feel there are extreme consequences if i dont and i think telling my parents is the first and most intimidating step i need to take to improve.
i plan to write a letter to say how ive been feeling these past few years and apologise for hiding those feelings and not coming to them for help. i want to explain that i hid them because i didnt want to burden them and make them worry or/and feared that they would be disappointed in me as well as wanting them to believe i was okay so they could be proud of me. i also want to say that some words of encouragement from them really impact how i view myself and always thought they werent really happy with me because i wasnt really academically excellent. i want to end it off by saying i love them and want our relationship to improve as well as apologising for the letter being so sudden and always seeming upset when they talked to me. i will also tell them to come speak to me/write to me about their feelings and tell them to communicate through letters because i dont know how else to tell them.
i want to give it to my mom first on a saturday so she can process her feelings when she isnt working on sunday, i dont know how i will tell my dad because we often clash and dont really get along and i think that’s the toughest part. im doing a letter because i dont think i can get all my words out because ill be crying sobbing if i talk with them face to face.
i want some advice from parents, is this a good idea? should i tweak my letter a little? is the day i give the letter okay? some comfort would greatly be of use as well because i really need it right now :( thanks for helping and reading.
