The importance of keeping their personal lives private:
We often see how active Katseye’s parents are on social media, which can lead to misunderstandings and generate even more hate toward the members.
When it comes to fandom culture, we understand that it is rooted in a parasocial relationship. The less they share about their personal lives — especially regarding their families or people outside the group (for example, who they are dating) — the better.
That is what kpop groups do and it does avoid many controversies.
I’m not saying they should never share anything about it with us. However, many people are immature and don’t know how to handle their favorite artists living personal lives that don’t match what they had envisioned.
I know it’s really sad, but if they continue sharing details about their personal lives, these problems will likely persist.
In conclusion, keeping their personal lives private protects them from people who refuse to accept that they are free to live however they choose. It also leaves room for imagination, which is essential to the parasocial dynamic within fandom culture.
Do I personally agree with fans getting mad at the girls for dating whoever they want? No. People need to touch some grass and stop being so obsessed.
Ultimately, the only real solution is to keep things private, because not everyone is mature enough to respect their boundaries.
