Mudi V2 for a upcoming Japan Trip?

I have an upcoming trip to Japan and need to get a hotspot for my partner whose phone is carrier locked. I was originally excited about the Mudi 7 but the NA version doesn't seem to be global and it won't arrive in time anyway for my case. So I was wondering if the Mudi V2 will be easy to set up for a Japan trip and be a good investment? I've seen some mixed reviews and experiences about it in Japan but it does seem to support the Japan 4G bands, so I was wondering what the process of getting a sim for Japan getting that set up would be like? I want this for privacy concerns since I like GLInet's routers and their easy VPN set ups, but would it be easier to just rent a pocket wifi when I arrive? I travel to Asia frequently so I think it would be good to invest in one but want to make sure a 4G one is a good investment in 2026 and so on or if there are alternatives to this that have the same amount of set up for VPNs and are easier to work with in Asia then I'm open to recommendations.
