Men do remember how it was like when you first moved away from home? How was it like for you?

Life

What was it like for you? Whether you were going to College or military or even just moving in with a friend because you had a job that was stable enough.

I was 19 years old and leaving because I had joined the Army and was heading for basic training in Missouri. I remember giving my mom a hug goodbye, then getting in the truck with my dad so he could take me to the recruiter's station. The hardest part was looking back at the door and seeing my mom cry. I'm the youngest of three boys, so I was the baby. My dad, on the other hand, was the classic dad and didn't show much emotion. He was a Vietnam Vet, so he already knew what I was getting into. I had mixed emotions scared, excited, nervous but I knew what that what was doing was going to help me and give me a career.
