Hello!

This is my first post in this group, and I'm excited to share my project. Ive been getting into sparkling water through the past 2 years or so, but I've been getting sick of buying case after case of spindrift (best seltzer out there for me, hands down). The soda streams are cool but I instantly saw through that scheme, limited by the proprietary CO2 carts. I recently realized I had the core components to make my own bubbly dispenser (had a kegerator collecting dust in the garage), so I decided to do something about it!

Bought some old kegs from an even older man (4 kegs for $50, only 2 were usable though). Cleaned and sanitized them, cut my fingers a bunch learning how to mess with the keg spring in a Sankey keg. Found a sick excel sheet put together [by some dedicated bubbly nerds](https://khymos.org/2012/01/04/mineral-waters-a-la-carte/) for making clones of all popular mineral waters. Bought food grade salts from Amazon. Ran about 50L of tap water through my Brita pitcher (only took like 3 hours 🥴), added salts, carbed it up, and now I have an infinite supply of fizzy drink! I went with the Gerolsteiner recipe, it's been really tasty. Just mineral water in the system, I squeeze a wedge of lime or whatever fruit juice I want into the glass and pour on top of it. This way I'll never have to take everything apart and clean the lines for a long time (hopefully).

The whole project cost me about $100 (used kegerator was an extra ~$150 but I bought that 5+ years ago). I ended up with a 50L keg which are European standard, no idea how I came across it in America, but it works all the same! I calculated a 50L tank will run me about 4.5 cases of spindrift, or ~$100 from Costco. All it takes for me to make a new keg of mineral water is some patience and about $5 of mineral salts. If you bought everything from the start you'd break even somewhere after the 2nd keg. Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

I made a seltzer fountain out of a kegerator. AMA!
