Getting a Grif(working) next Nov. What should I prepare for or get leading up to then?

I'm in highschool and live with and hunt over my dad's Llewellyn setter. I live in Maine on a farm in woodcock territory. Though I would like to have her trained for grouse rather than woodcock.

Is there anything of value I should start collecting or preparing till then. Im definitely thinking of starting a Pigeon flock, or maybe other training fowl.

What should I prepare for in general.
