Can we be honest? This sub has a "background music" problem
I’ve been lurking for a while and I genuinely don’t get it. Why is it that the beats getting the most upvoted and praised on this sub are the most mediocre, "safe" tracks imaginable?
Half the stuff that gets a lot of love is just:
• Sample-Carried Loops: Someone finds a soul loop, does a basic 2-bar chop, and slaps a generic drum kit on it. People call it "vibey," but it's just lazy.
• Background / Elevator Music: These flat, boring beats that sound like they belong in a YouTube tutorial or a low-budget video game menu. They have zero bounce and zero actual "trip" factor.
• Reject Beats: Tracks that no actual artist in the real world would ever listen to, let alone record on. It’s like this sub has a specific fetish for "background music."
I’m seeing beats that are genuinely terrible, just messy or totally uninspired, getting told they’re "fire."
Meanwhile, styles that actually require effort, like high-energy Brandon Finessin or Working on Dying vibes that use actual sound design and complex rhythm, seem to get ignored for this lo-fi, "elevator" noise.
Is this sub just for people who want to make music for study playlists, or does anyone here actually care about making hits that people would actually play in their cars?
