Aesthetic Nursing for RPNs

Discussion

Hi everyone,

I’m a new PND student at Seneca and I’m hoping to get some honest insight from nurses currently working in aesthetics in Canada — especially RPNs.

Truthfully, I entered nursing with the goal of expanding my scope in the aesthetic field and being able to perform advanced cosmetic treatments after graduation.

Prior to starting the program, I ran a small aesthetics business and worked as an aesthetic educator — something I hope to continue alongside nursing. I’m passionate about the industry and genuinely enjoy the educational side of it as well.

I’m hoping for realistic answers to a few questions:

• What is the actual pay range for RPNs in cosmetics right now? Online I see anywhere from $28–$50/hour, which feels like a massive range. What’s typical starting vs. experienced pay?

• Is the field truly as saturated as people say? Has anyone had a relatively smooth time finding a job?

• What does your day-to-day actually look like? Is it mostly injections?

• Can you specialize strictly in injectables, or are most roles a mix of treatments (lasers, skincare consults, medical admin, etc.)?

• What kind of experience did you have before entering aesthetics (med-surg, LTC, clinic work, etc.)?

• Any advice for someone entering nursing specifically with aesthetics in mind?

I’m realistic , I know nursing school should prepare me to be a safe and competent nurse first and foremost. I just want to understand what the current aesthetic landscape looks like for RPNs in Canada so I can plan accordingly. I should be done by next summer, so who knows what the job market will look like at that point, but hoping someone has some insight.

Kind insight is appreciated. I’m trying to build something sustainable long-term, not just chase a trend.

Thank you 🤍
