Pretentious workers and weird energy

I really love barre, but I recently had a weird experience at Pure Barre that left a bad taste in my mouth.

I booked a 6:45pm class through ClassPass. It ended up just being me and one other girl (besides the instructor). The other girl worked at the studio along with the instructor. While I was in the room stretching before class started, I overheard them at the front desk saying things like, “Oh it’s just us and the ClassPass girl,” and mentioning that another girl was supposed to come but wasn’t showing up. One of them then said something along the lines of, “It doesn’t matter if she shows up, she’s just a ClassPasser.”

It just felt… weird? Especially when studios use ClassPass as a way to attract potential new members. I was actually considering joining because I genuinely enjoy barre. But the whole class felt awkward after that. They were making inside jokes and giggling the entire time, and it felt kind of cliquey and uncomfortable.

Maybe I’m being sensitive, but it didn’t feel very welcoming. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I love barre and would love to find a studio that feels more inclusive.
