Do you ever worry about becoming "legally stuck" in your new country?

If you marry a local and have kids, but the relationship doesn’t work out, you can’t just move back to the US with the children. You’re essentially tied to that country until they turn 18.

Is this something you actually considered before settling down, or did you just realize the legal reality after the fact?
