Beating a dead horse but how has no one at Activision had the common sense to simply try and replicate that first year of MW19 WZ1?

Discussion

Seriously, why has no one at Activision ever stopped and looked back at why Warzone 1 and MW19 were so insanely popular that first year? Yeah, COVID created the perfect storm, no doubt, but most people would still pick that gameplay over any other CoD year we’ve had since. They literally struck lightning in a bottle with the perfect balance of rewarding gunplay, smart positioning, map rotations, and movement that felt crisp and still like actual Call of Duty.

The current Warzone just feels like Apex to me. It’s way too fast and slippery, none of my friends even want to play anymore because they can’t keep up, and they’re constantly asking why they had to change so much from Warzone 1. Warzone 2 went way too far the other direction and slowed everything down to a crawl, but they already had it just right the first time. MW19 was peak because it was before stim boosts, before gun speeds got ridiculous with Vanguard guns, and movement let you outplay people without feeling completely cracked.

The only thing I’d even change is getting rid of slide canceling and tac sprint resets. Other than that, how has nobody at Activision said “hey, everybody clearly wants MW19/Warzone 1 back… Why don’t we just take that foundation, modernize the graphics and optimization for current-gen consoles, and then just keep updating it with new maps and rotations?” If they did that, player numbers and retention would probably be the highest they’ve been in years. Most of us just want that feeling back. I genuinely don’t understand how they haven’t done it yet…
