Update: In regards to recent AI posts
Hi everyone,
A small update on the subject. It seems from the previous post that our stance on AI art was not conveyed correctly, or otherwise misunderstood, for which the moderation team would like to apologise.
First and foremost, our concern that lead to the previous post stemmed from several instances of members overstepping Rule 1. However in the previous post, the majority of people observed this rule, which we greatly appreciate. Rule 1 is important for creating a civil and inclusive environment, and this is especially important to maintain in a small community with little activity.
Secondly I'd like to address the concern that has been raised regarding AI generated images. Between the initial posts, within the comments of which were the multiple breaches of Rule 1, and two instances of other posters making separate complaint posts deemed off-topic, the previous post was made relatively quickly. It was intended to be both containment of the AI discussion, as well as to state that moderation would be maintaining the status quo regarding AI generated images, so to speak.
The status quo as mentioned was one of neutrality on the subject, as the previous post details. However, it would be disingenuous for us to pretend we're not aware it's a contentious issue. Whilst the matter of AI generated images has crossed our team before, we've admittedly overlooked it in previous instances. Until yesterday, there hasn't been significant outcry, and so the lack of urgency, along with the minimal activity in the subreddit and other matters such as real life have pushed addressing the issue down our list of priorities.
With this in mind, we would like to therefore let members know that given the concerns raised, we will revisit the topic and consider whether the rules surrounding it will be subject to change in the future. We wish to approach this subject with care and caution as we are aware there will be upset and disappointment from one side either way. The most important thing is we account for everything and aim to do what we believe is the right thing, but please also understand that we are regular people behind the computer screens as well, and we will make mistakes from time to time, especially when we're stuck between two opposing opinions in a heated argument.
In the meantime, comments on the previous thread will still be open, but be placed under mod review via. crowd control.
Thanks!
