Just need to vent
i got a bilateral salpingectomy last april. i have been very anti kids. my partner, although it’s not his decision, was 100% supportive of my choice. so, i got my tubes taken out. but i wasn’t getting my period. i thought it was because of surgery.
yes and no.
i was looking over my surgery paperwork and saw that it had pictures of my ovaries, WITH CYSTS. the comment said, “cysts found. benign.” my surgeon didn’t say anything else about it. so i was like “whelp that sucks but at least i can’t get pregnant anymore lol”.
when i went to my obgyn, (my appointment was in november), she said that my periods should be somewhat regular by now. i just brushed it off, and told her that i was in the process of getting a chronic fatigue syndrome diagnosis. she looked over my labs, and she paused. “OP you’ve never had your hormones tested?”
me: lol what
she explained that i have symptoms of pcos: stubborn acne, weight staying the same no matter what i try, excess hair… well, i got my hormones tested. my T levels were high. i then got the call that i was officially diagnosed with pcos. i went into the obgyn appointment and tried not to cry.
she suggested birth control to help with period regulation. i looked at her like “uh did i get my tubes out for nothing?” and thus the existential crisis began.
im just…annoyed. im glad that i have an answer. im annoyed that it took four different obgyns to find it, or to even suggest it. i’ve had an ultrasound done when i got my iud, and they looked at my ovaries. you’re telling me they didn’t see them then?
im sorry. i just felt the need to vent. because now i feel like i got surgery for nothing.
